From August 10 to 12, the 2nd International Low-Carbon Thermal Conversion Conference, jointly organized by the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics, Harbin Institute of Technology, and the Datong Municipal People’s Government, was successfully held in Datong, Shanxi. CAS Hefei Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (ZHGAS) participated as a co-host.
The conference focused on advancing clean, low-carbon modern energy systems, with themes centered on low-carbon thermal conversion technologies for energy and industrial applications. It gathered researchers from leading global universities, institutions, and enterprises to discuss foundational theories and core technologies for energy decarbonization.
Notable attendees included:
Jin Hongguang, CAS Academician and Chairman of the Chinese Society of Engineering Thermophysics;
Sui Jun, Deputy Director of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, CAS;
Ren Xijie, Vice Mayor of Datong.
Lv Qinggang (Researcher, Institute of Engineering Thermophysics) served as Conference Chair, with Zhu Zhiping (Senior Engineer), Ren Qiangqiang (Researcher), and Zhao Yijun (Professor, Harbin Institute of Technology) as Executive Chairs.
ZHGAS’s Technical Contributions
In the Low-Carbon Utilization Technology Session, Yang Shaojun, Commercial Deputy General Manager of ZHGAS, presented innovations in Circulating Fluidized Bed Gasification (CGAS):
Industrial Applications:
Showcased projects like the Xinjiang Yihua Coal Gasification Facility, Indonesia Xiangsheng CFB Gasification Project, and Dongfang Hope CFB Gasifier Project, highlighting CGAS’s efficiency in syngas and industrial gas production.
Biomass Energy Exploration:
Shared advances in adapting CFB technology for biomass conversion.
Gasification Waster-to-Resource Solutions:
Proposed utilizing high-carbon gasification fine slag via fine slag preheating gasification or residual carbon combustion to produce syngas/high-pressure steam, enhancing system efficiency and environmental benefits.
Highlighted ongoing projects:
Xinjiang Tianye Carbon-Based Solid Waste Resource Utilization (First Entrained-Flow Gasification Slag Disposal Project).
Shandong Rongxin Gasification Fly Ash Recycling(First Fluidized Bed Slag Melting Gasification Project).
Linzhou Fengbao Residual Carbon Combustion Project (First Residual Carbon Combustion Disposal Project for Gasification Fine Slag)
Strategic Vision
Thermal conversion technology is pivotal for coal, solid waste, and renewable energy utilization in China. Under the "Dual Carbon" goals, coupling low-carbon conversion with thermal processes is critical. As the industrial arm of the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, CAS, ZHGAS commits to:
Accelerating the industrialization of low-carbon thermal R&D;
Strengthening the "basic research → technology R&D → pilot verification → engineering demonstration → commercialization" chain;
Providing robust engineering support for scientific breakthroughs
