On November 29, the Anhui Provincial Department of Economy and Information Technology announced the 2022 Provincial Industrial Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection "Five One Hundred" Promotion Catalog. The Circulating Fluidized Bed Gasifier Coupled with Residual Carbon Treatment Technology, developed by CAS Hefei Gasification Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as ZHGAS), was listed among Anhui’s advanced energy conservation and environmental protection technologies.
The CGAS technology, pioneered over a decade by the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), is an efficient and clean coal conversion method. Its industrialization project was selected for the CAS "Hongguang Initiative", a key national program for transforming scientific breakthroughs. As the initiative’s designated industrial platform, ZHGAS has driven the commercialization of CGAS gasification technology, demonstrating advantages such as broad coal adaptability, low energy consumption and costs, high system efficiency, minimal emissions of three wastes (gas, water, residue), and exceptional reliability. The integrated residual carbon treatment technology further enhances carbon conversion and energy efficiency by combusting or gasifying unburned carbon in fly ash, enabling cascaded coal utilization and maximizing resource efficiency.
To date, ZHGAS has successfully deployed the CGAS gasification coupled with residual carbon treatment in industrial applications for coal-to-syngas and clean coal gas production, establishing multiple high-impact demonstration projects that deliver economic, social, and environmental benefits
During the 14th Five-Year Plan, coal clean utilization is prioritized under China’s "Ten Major Energy Conservation Projects". ZHGAS and the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics will advance "Dual-Drive" strategies—aligning with industry demands and continuous innovation—to expand the technology’s applications, providing clean energy solutions for high-quality development in the coal chemical sector.
